Ashley is widely known for her expressive and personable performances that stay true to the pure Oriental style of Raks Sharqi. She is a polished dancer who loves to perform and has a natural joie de vivre. Ashley took her first Middle Eastern dance class in 1995 under the instruction of Nahida after years of studying ballet and jazz as a child and teen.

Ashley has continued to further her dance training by studying with many of the world’s finest Middle Eastern dancers and teachers such as: Mahmoud Reda, Khalid Mahmoud, Jillina, Dr. Gamal Seif, Ranya Renee, Bozenka, Aziza and Tamalyn Dallal. Ashley is currently studying under Egyptian superstar Randa Kamel's tutelage. Ashley firmly believes that dance is a constant evolution and a lifelong commitment to learning.

To date, Ashley has performed in Canada, the United States, in Trinidad, Cairo Egypt, and in the UK. Ashley has long held residency in most of the Greek, Arabic, Persian and Mediterranean restaurants and venues in Vancouver, BC since 2001. Ashley has also performed in many festivals, multicultural events, theatres and on television. Ashley performed with live musicians while living in London, UK at many Arabic and North African restaurants and venues. In 2004, Ashley and Yasmina (Vancouver, BC) were featured headliners in the “Young Stars: Sunidhi Chauhan and KK” Bollywood concert in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad with Universal Concerts. Ashley has performed live with award winning Arabic composer and electric oud player Jef Stott, and with world music DJs and composers Cheb I Sabah and DrumSpyder. Ashley has also performed personally for celebrities such as Bif Naked, Calvin Ayre of BoDog, Jean Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal.

In June 2014, Ashley traveled to Egypt for her first ever bellydance festival - Randa Kamel's "Raqs of Course". At Raqs, Ashley competed in her first Egyptian competition, and although she did not place, she was extremely inspired by the high level of dance seen there. In July 2014, Ashley completed a 4 day intensive certificate program with Randa Kamel and won 2nd place in the Randa Kamel Crown Competition in Dallas, Texas.


Ashley is a founding member of the longest running professional belly dance company in Vancouver, BC “The Harem Dancers” with fellow members Danielle and Simone. Ashley was a principle dancer in the Middle Eastern Folkloric and debke dance group “Ninawa: Eastern Magic” from 2005-2008. Ashley has recently put together a live drum & dance show with two long time friends and collaborators Tim Gerwing, Liam MacDonald, and Andre Thibault to form “Samar Oriental Dance Ensemble”.

In addition to bellydance, Ashley pursued a serious study in flamenco for 5 years from 2007-2012 in Vancouver, BC, London, UK and in Spain. Ashley is also a yoga enthusiast and plans to take her yoga therapist certification with Yoga Therapy Vancouver in the near future. Ashley is very committed to personal health and wellness. Ashley is also a proud believer and supporter of Vega plant-based nutrition, and became a Vega brand ambassador (Team Vega) in 2013.

Ashley has been teaching beginner and intermediate belly dance classes since 2002. Ashley firmly believes in proper body mechanics and alignment. Ashley has been teaching at Hillcrest Community Centre (Riley Park) since 2007 and at Hastings Community Centre since 2012. Ashley is also an instructor and director of "Anwaar Dance Company" with fellow friend and dancer Carla Naar at the Scotiabank Dance Centre that is geared for intermediate level dancers interested in performing and developing dance training.

Ashley performs regularly in and around Vancouver, BC in venues such as: Anatolis Souvlaki, the Afghan Horseman restaurant, Pasparos Taverna, the Moulin Rouge, Hafiz Shisha House, Taverna Greka, Cristos Taverna and Gilgeneh. Ashley was the resident dancer at Sanafir Restaurant & Lounge for 6 years, until its closing in 2012.

Ashley is a rehabilitation assistant working in the field of physiotherapy and occupational therapy. She has been a research assistant at the UBC James Hogg Research Centre working in pulmonary rehabilitation research since 2012. She finished her undergraduate degree in 2012 in Community Rehabilitation from the University of Calgary and is working towards her graduate degree in physiotherapy.
