Frequently Asked Questions:

Type of show:

Harem Dancers offers a modern twist on traditional belly dance, while still retaining the essence and roots of the dance.  The show is for young and old alike, and is entertaining and interactive.  The Harem Dancers use a variety of props such as Wings of Isis, swords, candelabras, canes, veils, and finger cymbals.  Want something special for your event?  Check out our Customize your Show page and select the pieces that you would like to see showcased. *In some cases an alternate option may have to be selected due to venue constraints.  Additional travel charges may apply depending on location of the event.*

How long is the show?

A typical show at a wedding, party, or in a banquet hall style venue is about 20 – 25 minutes. If a longer or second set is requested, it can be added for an additional fee. For a belly gram performance, an 8 – 10 min. performance is adequate. *If a dancer is required to wait more than 20 minutes past the booking time, then a $40 fee is added for each 20 minute interval.*

Is a deposit required?

The Harem Dancers do not usually ask for a deposit or advance payment, but may do so when booking a performance several months in advance, out of location, or for a big event/festival. If the performance is cancelled 5 days before the event, full payment is still required.

Is the performance appropriate for children?

Absolutely! Children also love to dance, and may be encouraged to join the dancers on the dance floor. Harem provides an All-Ages show every time.

What type of music will be used and will it be provided?

The Harem Dancers use mainly Arabic and Turkish music (modern and classical pieces) on a specially selected CD in their show. For the audience interaction section of the performance, other types of music can be used (i.e. Indian, Persian) as requested. A live drummer can also be arranged for an additional fee. Please ensure that a proper sound system is available and provides good sound quality. The music should be loud and heard by everyone. The dancers usually stay out of sight until the CD has begun playing.

Is tipping appropriate?

It is not a requirement, but is always appreciated. Tips can be given at the end of the performance, thrown on the dance floor, or accepted in the dancers’ belt. Money is not accepted in the bra. and if the dancer feels uncomfortable or violated during the performance she reserves the right to end the performance with full payment.

Space Requirements:

Please make sure that there is a clear space for the dancers in an area where they can be seen by everyone, and that there are no hazardous objects (broken glass, liquids, wires) on the floor. Props used may depend on the amount of dance floor available, more space means more room for props. The dancers need a clear path to the performance area, so adjust seating as necessary. The dancers also need a place to get ready, so please provide a room or private area.
